Walter P Chrysler's contribution to the late 1920's "race
for the sky," the Chrysler Building in New York City dominated
the skyline for only a few months before it was surpassed by the
Empire State Building.
While both buildings embody the Twenties spirit of modernism through
the well-known Art Deco style, the Chrylser building is a richer,
more striking example. Clean, strong, bold-ornamental but not overdonethe
Chrysler Building remains a testament to the spirit and artistry
of the industrial age in America.
