As fashion focused on the runway spectacle and not the clothing,
innovative Asian designer Issey Miyake applied both art and technology
to his lines propelling himself to status as one of the most significant
clothing designers of today.
His work with Pleats Please and A-POC (A Piece of Cloth) brought
the focus back to comfortable, functional and still beautiful. His
shows have been compared to an art exhibition rather than the "rock
show" put on by his contemporaries. And, his creations have
been called "the most innovative explorations of fabric, texture
and the human body."
